Tank transport specialist VERVAEKE, active in the chemical, petroleum and gas industries, today announces the acquisition of the French transport company Bertout, based in Nesle. The acquisition aligns with VERVAEKE’s long-term strategy to further strengthen its presence on the French market. The day-to-day operations of Transports Bertout will remain unchanged, and owner-manager Francis Bertout will continue to be involved during an initial phase to support the integration.
Strategic foothold in France
Like VERVAEKE, Bertout specialises in the transport of dangerous goods, with a strong focus on the same product segments. The acquisition therefore represents a logical and strategic extension of VERVAEKE’s existing service offering. For Bertout, the transaction provides a sustainable long-term perspective, ensuring the continuity of the company.
“This acquisition is a perfect match between two companies that place a strong emphasis on quality,” says Frédéric Derumeaux, CEO of VERVAEKE. “Bertout shares our expertise in the transport of hazardous materials, operates high-quality and modern equipment, and relies on experienced drivers from the region. Moreover, this step strengthens our capacity on the French market, sending a strong signal to our customers.”
“The location of Bertout near the future inland port of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal is an additional major asset,” Derumeaux continues. “It creates opportunities to further expand our service portfolio and develop intermodal logistics solutions.”
Continuity and trust
The acquisition confirms VERVAEKE’s ambitions and further consolidates its position on the French market. “For our customers, continuity is essential,” says Francis Bertout. “By joining VERVAEKE, we are deliberately choosing a strong industrial group that shares our values and will safeguard the long-term future of our company, our employees and our activities.”
Sustainability
Bertout’s fleet currently includes 20 trucks running entirely on biofuel (B100), achieving a CO₂ reduction of up to 60%. This commitment is fully in line with VERVAEKE’s sustainability strategy, which actively invests in alternative propulsion systems, including hydrogen.
Following this acquisition, VERVAEKE reports consolidated revenues of €175 million and operates a fleet of more than 800 trucks, over 1,100 tankers and more than 900 tank containers.
