CEO of Van Moer Logistics puts region Antwerp-Waasland on the
international map
The Gallery of Prominent Figures of Voka – Chamber of Commerce Antwerp-Waasland will soon feature a new name with a distinct Waas accent. This September, the 36th gold plaque in the honorary gallery of the
Antwerp-Waasland business world will be dedicated to Jo Van Moer, founder of the successful logistics group Van Moer Logistics, based in Zwijndrecht.
For 35 years, the Gallery of Prominent Figures has been Voka’s way of honouring key personalities from the greater Antwerp region who have made a significant contribution to the region’s international reputation —
be it economically, culturally, or socially. A gold plaque bearing their name highlights their achievements in the central entrance hall of the Antwerp-Waasland Chamber. So far, thirty-five individuals have received this
honour, including notable names such as top virologist Peter Piot, fashion designer Dries Van Noten, Soudalfounder Vic Swerts, Tomorrowland founders Manu and Michiel Beers, and most recently, Michel Moortgat,
CEO of Duvel-Moortgat Brewery.
On 10 September, the Chamber will add Jo Van Moer to this distinguished list. The board of directors of Voka unanimously nominated the Van Moer Logistics CEO for this honour. “This is thanks to his remarkable
entrepreneurship, contagious enthusiasm, and long-standing commitment to the broader Antwerp region,” says managing director Luc Luwel.
In 1990 — the same year the first gold plaque was awarded — the then 20-year-old Jo Van Moer and his wife Anne Verstraeten launched their transport company with the purchase of a single truck. Over time, the
company evolved into a globally active logistics group, offering tailored solutions in warehousing, tank container logistics, distribution, and transport by road, rail, and inland waterways. Today, the group operates 500 trucks, manages 40 locations, offers 850,000 m² of warehouse space, runs 15 inland barges, and employs over 2,200 people. As part of its international growth strategy, Van Moer Logistics recently expanded its operations to China and Qatar.
“This nomination is a tremendous honour, which I accept with deep gratitude,” says Jo Van Moer. “I see this as a very meaningful recognition, especially because it comes from September 2, 2025
