New Covestro Facility to Fill and Store MDI Now inOperation
The HOYER Group, one of the world’s leading providers of logistics solutions for liquid goods, has successfully implemented a major infrastructure project in Shanghai together with its long-standing customer Covestro. In a newly constructed, state-of-the-art facility within the Covestro Integrated Site Shanghai, HOYER will now be responsible for filling and storing MDI in drums and IBC totes, as well as the logistical management of the entire process. The facility was officially opened in November.
The new facility was planned and constructed by Covestro. It includes, among other features:
• Four fully automated drum filling systems with integrated
system,
• three temperature-controlled warehouses with ammonia
refrigeration,
• a central control room to monitor all technical processes,
• an office building with expanded administrative functions.
At the heart of the new facility is a modern control room, which serves as the control and monitoring center for all logistical and technical operations. It is staffed around the clock, ensuring 24/7 operational readiness. Joseph Gao, Startup Manager of the MDI Logistics Project says, “With the new facility at our Shanghai Integrated Site, we are showcasing advanced automated systems and digital innovation with locally-adapted technologies that ensure reliable MDI production.”
“Our local team contributed to the successful commissioning with great commitment and expertise,” adds Leo Zhang, Senior Manager Operations in the HOYER Group. HOYER employees on site receive comprehensive and ongoing training in operating the new systems. In addition to visual monitoring, they are responsible for technical documentation, conduct leakage tests, and accompanied the step-by-step commissioning of individual components during the setup phase. JianJun Fu, Deputy Production Manager in the HOYER Group, emphasizes, “The technical implementation and commissioning of the new control room was a demanding task. We are all the more pleased that the processes are now running smoothly and that we can contribute to a safe, secure supply chain.” HOYER has operated for Covestro at the site since 2016. The close partnership has now resulted in a renewed contract extension. The commissioning of the new facility marks another milestone in this successful collaboration. December 16, 2025
